Why Our Steam Carpet Cleaning
Method is Better for Your Carpet

When you choose a carpet cleaning company, it’s important to pay attention to what cleaning method that carpet cleaner will use, either steam cleaning or dry cleaning.

Almost every carpet manufacturer’s website recommends using “hot water extraction,” which is the cleaning method that Mr. Steam uses. Inside our truck is a cleaning machine that heats water very hot, and then sends it by a hose inside your home. When sprayed onto your carpet, you’ll see steam rise, and then the water is immediately extracted with a vacuum that sucks the water, carpet dirt, pet hair, odors, bacteria, allergens, tobacco odor, insects or anything else out of your home to our truck.

Steam Cleaning is Preferred by Carpet Manufacturers
Many other carpet cleaning firms don’t have the same equipment to do steam cleaning. Instead, they use some type of dry cleaning process, either by applying chemical powders, or citrus chemical sprays, and then agitating this into the carpet fibers and trying to remove it with a vacuum.

Why do carpet manufacturers prefer the hot water extraction method?

It does a better job of removing the dirt and other contaminants from the carpet. Here’s what the world’s largest carpet companies recommend for carpet cleaning…

On the “Guide to Caring for Your Carpet” page on the Shaw Industries website, it says…

“In addition to frequent vacuuming, it’s important to have your carpet professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Cleaning systems target the soils that result from cooking vapors, air pollution, and tracked-in dirt. The particles of oily soil deposited on carpet fibers can gradually dull the color of your carpet; the color isn’t lost but is hidden under the film.”

“Research indicates that hot water extraction provides the most thorough cleaning. The process involves applying a cleaning agent to the carpet and using water in an extractor to remove the used solution and soil.”

In the warranty that comes with Mohawk Carpet, it says “Even with regular vacuuming, soil particles and oily dirt will cling to carpet fibers. Foot traffic drives these particles and dirt deep in to the carpet. Mohawk requires professional hot water extraction every 18 months using cleaning products, equipment or systems that carry the CRI Seal of Approval. Periodic cleaning by a certified carpet-care professional using the hot water extraction method will refresh carpet appearance.”

Beaulieu America, one of the nation’s largest carpet manufacturers, on their “Get the most from your professional carpet cleaning investment” page says “Select a service that offers the “deep extraction” method: vacuuming, pre-spray, agitation, rinse and hot water extraction. If the detergent residue isn’t thoroughly extracted, your floor won’t stay clean for long.”

On the Karastan carpet website

Steam Cleaning (Hot Water Extraction): Extraction of the cleaning solution and soil leaves little residue and no pile damage. Recommended for all carpet types, this method is most effective when performed by a professional using an external hot water extraction unit.”

Here’s what they say about dry cleaning: “Dry Powder: Absorbent particles are worked into the pile with a machine and removed by vacuum. This method uses no water, little skill is required, and the carpet is ready for use immediately. This is a professional or do-it-yourself method. Limitations: It can be difficult to remove all cleaning residue from deep pile. This method also is not that effective for heavily soiled or matted areas.”

When you do the research, you’ll choose Mr. Steam as your carpet cleaner!
